Former DGP R. Sreelekha Backs Victim, Raises Concerns Over Direct Complaint to Chief Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: R. Sreelekha, former Director General of Police and a BJP candidate from Sasthamangalam, has publicly affirmed her unwavering support for victims, emphasizing her strong belief that there should be no delay or failure in ensuring their protection. In a recent Facebook post, Sreelekha declared, “I am always and forever with the survivor.” However, she expressed significant apprehension regarding the timing and rationale behind the recent decision to submit a complaint directly to the Chief Minister.

Sreelekha articulated her concern, questioning whether this direct approach might inadvertently provide an advantage to the accused. She speculated that such a move could offer the individual an opportunity to evade authorities by switching off their phone or to secure anticipatory bail, thereby hindering the investigative process. Furthermore, the former top police official suggested an alternative, more politically charged motive, raising the possibility that the direct complaint could be an attempt to divert attention or prevent the arrest of more influential persons implicated in the ongoing Sabarimala gold heist case, which has drawn considerable public scrutiny.

Reflecting on her professional background as a police officer and her personal role as a mother, Sreelekha underscored her firm conviction in the immediate and uncompromised protection of victims. “I firmly believe there should be no delay or failure in protecting victims,” she stated, highlighting the critical importance of timely and effective intervention in cases of abuse.

Her remarks come amid escalating discussions around the Rahul Mamkootathil sexual assault case, where police have reportedly filed a case following allegations of sexual assault and forced abortion. Reports suggest the complainant accused Mamkootathil of threatening her with objectionable videos and perpetrating the assault at a flat. Sreelekha’s intervention adds a crucial voice to the discourse, bringing her experience in law enforcement to bear on the complexities surrounding victim support, legal procedures, and the potential for political influence in sensitive investigations.
