Cracks Appear on National Highway in Kozhikode, Raising Safety Concerns

Kozhikode: Cracks have emerged in two locations along the National Highway (NH-66) in Kozhikode: on the Thiruvangoor overpass and above the Ambalappady-Cherukulam underpass.
The crack above the Ambalappady-Cherukulam underpass, located on the Vengalam-Ramanattukara bypass route, developed following recent rainfall. Locals report that water is seeping from the middle of the road, where vehicles pass, down into the underpass, and that the crack is widening.
Meanwhile, samples are being collected today from the cracked section of the National Highway in Chavakkad, Thrissur. This is part of an investigation to determine if the soil in the affected area was filled correctly. Work on this section has been temporarily halted pending the final report from an expert committee.
The crack on the Thiruvangoor overpass in Kozhikode had been previously patched. However, new cracks have reappeared in certain areas of the 400-meter long damaged section. Cracks have also been observed on the retaining walls of the overpass, adding to safety concerns.
