Actor Thilakan’s Son and Wife Enter Local Election Fray as BJP Candidates

Kochi: The son and wife of prominent actor Thilakan are contesting in the upcoming local body elections. Thilakan’s son, Shibu Thilakan, and his wife, Lekha, have both been fielded as candidates by the BJP for the Thripunithura Municipality.

Shibu Thilakan is set to seek the public mandate as the BJP candidate from Ward 20 of the Thripunithura Municipality. His wife, Lekha, will also be contesting on a BJP ticket, representing Ward 19. The couple and their family currently reside in Thiruvankulam Kesavanpadi.

While his father and the extended family have historically aligned with Communist ideologies, Shibu Thilakan embraced BJP politics in 1996. He had previously contested from the 25th division in the last elections but was unsuccessful. Shibu is the only one among Thilakan’s six children actively involved in politics.

Shibu has consistently stated that while he holds immense respect and affection for his father’s personal convictions, he does not share the same political views. He asserts that Communist ideologies are unacceptable and tend to burden the populace with difficulties.

In addition to his political pursuits, Shibu has also made forays into the film industry, having performed minor roles in approximately 25 movies. His notable appearances include films such as ‘Yakshiyum Njanum’, ‘Evidam Swargamanu’, and ‘Chalakkudikkaran Changathi’.”
