Teacher Suspended Following Clash with Plus Two Student in Kollam

Kollam: A physical education teacher has been suspended following an incident involving a clash with a Plus Two student at Anchalumoodu School in Kollam. The teacher, Mohammed Rafi, was suspended by the District Educational Deputy Director. Authorities have also registered a case against the teacher under non-bailable sections of the law.

The Anchalumoodu police registered the case, invoking sections including BNS 114 and various provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. In addition, the Child Welfare Committee has launched its own investigation into the matter.

The altercation between the teacher and the student reportedly took place recently. Initial reports suggest that the student first assaulted the teacher, prompting the teacher to retaliate, resulting in the student sustaining a fractured nose and head injuries. The injured student was subsequently admitted to the district hospital for treatment. The teacher also suffered injuries during the incident. It is understood that the dispute originated when the teacher confronted the student for verbally abusing another female student.

Kerala Minister V Sivankutty commented on the incident, confirming the teacher’s suspension. He acknowledged that the student had initially struck the teacher, and indicated that action would also be taken against the student. However, Minister Sivankutty emphasized the principle that even if a teacher is assaulted, retaliating by hitting a student is unacceptable.
