Kerala Weather Update: Cyclone Montha Weakens to Deep Depression; Light Rain with Thunderstorms Expected

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain with thunderstorms across Kerala today. While no specific rain warnings have been issued for any district for the next five days, there is a possibility of light rainfall in all 14 districts of the state today.
Cyclone Montha, which made landfall near Narsapur between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam with a speed of 90-100 kmph, has weakened. It initially reduced to a cyclonic storm over coastal Andhra and subsequently to a deep depression. The system is expected to move in a north-northwesterly direction across Andhra Pradesh, adjoining Telangana, and southern Chhattisgarh, further weakening into a depression within the next six hours. Separately, a deep depression persists over the east-central Arabian Sea and is likely to move north-northeasterly across the east-central Arabian Sea within the next 36 hours. Kerala is expected to experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms over the next five days.
Meanwhile, the IMD has also warned of light rain and strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph, in isolated areas of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts of Kerala over the next three hours.
