Kerala Rain Alert: Yellow Alert Declared in Six Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a revised rain alert for Kerala, declaring a Yellow Alert in six districts. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted across the state. The districts under Yellow Alert today include Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram.

The IMD’s forecast for the next five days indicates continued rainfall. Specifically, the Yellow Alert will remain in effect for Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on September 10, 2025, in addition to the aforementioned districts on September 09, 2025. Isolated heavy rainfall is defined as precipitation ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

A fishermen warning has also been issued. The IMD announced that there are no obstructions to fishing activities along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts today, September 08, 2025.

Furthermore, a special caution has been advised for sea areas. From September 09, 2025, to September 12, 2025, strong winds with speeds of 45 to 55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected over the central-west and southwest Arabian Sea. On September 09, 2025, similar conditions with winds of 40 to 50 kmph, occasionally reaching 60 kmph, and rough weather are likely over North Gujarat, the Northeast Arabian Sea, the Kanyakumari region, the adjoining South Tamil Nadu coast, and the Gulf of Mannar. Residents and authorities are urged to take necessary precautions.
