Unidentified Hero in Red Shirt Saves Girl, Subdues Assailant in Varkala Train Attack

Thiruvananthapuram: Railway Police have released the image of an individual who bravely subdued an assailant after a young woman was attacked on a train in Varkala. The person was identified from the train’s CCTV footage. Railway Police are now preparing to locate, honor, and reward this individual for his heroic act.

The CCTV footage from the coach where the incident occurred was handed over to the RPF investigation team a few days ago. The visuals clearly show the rescuer’s actions. The footage captures the moment when the accused, Suresh, was about to attack a second girl, and the hero intervened to save her.

The CCTV footage distinctly shows the man in the red shirt rushing forward, risking his own life, to pull the second girl back into the train with one hand and then overpowering the assailant. The Railway Police are actively searching for this individual, but as of now, no information regarding his identity has been obtained.

Meanwhile, the investigating team is preparing to conduct an identification parade for the accused in the train kicking incident, Suresh Kumar (50), from Panachamoodu Vadakkumkara, in front of witnesses. The parade will take place in jail. Railway Police stated that an application for his custody would only be filed after the identification parade. Sreekutty’s friend, Archana, who was with her, had already identified the accused from photos and videos.

The footage also shows Sreekutty, a native of Palode who is currently in serious condition after falling from the train, and her friend Archana, arguing with Suresh Kumar inside the train. Police believe that the dispute and subsequent attack were triggered when the girls questioned Suresh Kumar about smoking inside the train compartment.

The investigation team found that Suresh Kumar, who boarded the Kerala Express from Kottayam after consuming alcohol, was accompanied by a friend. However, his friend, who was asleep in his seat, was not involved in the attack. This shocking incident, which horrified Kerala, occurred around 8:45 PM on Sunday in the general compartment of the Kerala Express bound for Thiruvananthapuram.
