Driver Dies in Alappuzha After Girder Collapses on Pickup Van

Alappuzha: A pickup van driver tragically died after a girder collapsed onto his vehicle in the construction zone of the Aroor-Thuravoor elevated highway.

The deceased has been identified as Rajesh, a resident of Pallippad in Alappuzha. The devastating incident occurred around 2:30 AM today at Chandiroor.

Two girders fell onto the pickup van, which was transporting eggs at the time. One girder completely crushed the vehicle, while the other fell partially. The accident took place during the installation of these girders.

Rajesh’s body was recovered from the wreckage of the pickup van, which was trapped under the massive girders. The van was on its return journey to Alappuzha after offloading eggs in Ernakulam, which it had transported from Tamil Nadu.

It has been confirmed that Rajesh was not the vehicle’s regular driver. He had stepped in to drive after being called in due to the unavailability of the usual driver. Rajesh is survived by his wife and two children.
