Councilor R Sreelekha Asks MLA VK Prasanth to Vacate Office in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Building

Thiruvananthapuram: Vattiyoorkavu MLA VK Prasanth has reported that Sasthamangalam Councilor R Sreelekha requested him to vacate his MLA office. Prasanth stated that the councilor made the request over the phone, asking him to leave the Vattiyoorkavu MLA office, which operates in a Thiruvananthapuram Corporation building in the Sasthamangalam area.

However, MLA Prasanth clarified that he cannot accede to the councilor’s demand. He asserted that there are still 10 months remaining on the rental agreement for the office space, and therefore, he will not vacate the premises. Councilor Sreelekha reportedly requested the MLA to move out of the current room to facilitate the convenient functioning of her own office. It is noted that the former councilor’s office also operated from the same building. Currently, the MLA’s office functions there based on a decision by the Corporation Council.

According to regulations, the Mayor is responsible for allotting office space to a councilor in a Corporation building. Procedures for such allotments should only be initiated after the Secretary verifies the availability of appropriate building facilities. If a Corporation building is not available within her designated ward, a councilor is authorized to rent alternative premises. Should the BJP-majority council officially decide to evict the current occupant, the MLA might then be compelled to relocate his office. Councilor R Sreelekha has yet to issue any public statement regarding this matter.
