Zumba Association Stages Protest Flash Mob in Thiruvananthapuram; Education Minister Joins

In response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the introduction of Zumba training in schools, the Zumba Association organized a protest Zumba flash mob in front of the Secretariat. The protest, which began in the morning, saw the participation of Education Minister V. Sivankutty.

The protest comes amidst widespread opposition from Muslim organizations against Zumba dance, which they view as more than just a workout or exercise. Muslim organizations have criticized the Zumba training, initiated as part of the school curriculum, stating that it sends an inappropriate message and infringes upon students’ fundamental rights.

The Association’s unified protest was also triggered by criticisms that the Zumba instructors were not adequately trained. The Zumba Association organized the flash mob to protest against the mischaracterization of a fitness cardio workout as a controversial program related to dress codes or DJ events.
