Kerala Left Government to Honor Amritanandamayi for UN Malayalam Speech Silver Jubilee

Kollam: The Left government is set to bestow an honor upon Mata Amritanandamayi, recognizing the silver jubilee of her historic speech delivered in Malayalam at the United Nations General Assembly. The state government will facilitate this tribute at a ceremony scheduled for today, September 26, at 5 PM at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus.
Cultural Minister Saji Cherian and Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal will jointly honor Amritanandamayi during the event. As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, various competitions including essay writing, drawing, and quizzes will be organized for school students. These competitions will revolve around the theme “One World, One Heart,” with the aim of promoting and nurturing the Malayalam language.
Amritanandamayi’s poignant address in Malayalam took place on August 29, 2000, during the Millennium World Peace and Spiritual Summit at the United Nations General Assembly. Her three-minute speech resonated as a powerful voice for harmony among diverse religions and peaceful coexistence among all people. On a global stage featuring renowned orators, Mata Amritanandamayi’s message particularly emphasized the critical need for poverty eradication, environmental protection, and the principle of religious equality. The core tenets of her address were subsequently adopted as a resolution by the conference.
She concluded her profound discourse with the sacred mantra ‘Asato Ma Sadgamaya…’ and the universal prayer ‘Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu,’ which translates to “May all beings in all worlds be happy.”
