Snakebite Fatalities Rise in Kerala: Two More Deaths Reported
THODUPUZHA – The state of Kerala is on high alert following a tragic surge in snakebite incidents. Two more women lost their lives today, bringing the total number of snakebite-related fatalities in the state to five within a single week.
In Idukki district, a 75-year-old woman identified as Vishalakshi, a native of Kanjar, passed away after being bitten by a snake near her residence. Although she was rushed to the hospital immediately, medical professionals were unable to save her life.
Meanwhile, in Kannur, 65-year-old Nabeesa died at the Pariyaram Medical College. She had been undergoing treatment after being bitten earlier today in Taliparamba.
In a separate incident that has raised concerns regarding safety in the tourism sector, a young woman was bitten by a snake at a resort in Cherai, Ernakulam. The victim, Sharmila, a native of Coimbatore, is currently hospitalized and remains under medical observation.
The sudden spike in incidents—five deaths in just seven days—has sparked fear among residents. Authorities are urging the public to maintain cleanliness around their premises and exercise extreme caution, especially during the evening hours.
