CPM Workers Celebrate as District Leader Suja Chandrababu Joins Muslim League in Kollam

Kollam: Workers of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Anchal, Kollam, celebrated with sweets following the news of CPM District Committee member Suja Chandrababu’s defection to the Muslim League. Party members distributed green ladoos and payasam, loudly declaring that “the party is saved now that the betrayer has left.”

The jubilant workers accused Suja Chandrababu of betrayal, highlighting that she had enjoyed numerous positions and benefits while affiliated with the Left Front. Participants in the celebration also alleged that her move was driven by the ambition to secure a seat in the upcoming assembly elections, indicating a strong public outcry against her decision.

Suja Chandrababu, who previously served as the Anchal Panchayat President for three terms, officially joined the Muslim League, accepting membership from Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal. This significant political shift marks the end of her three-decade-long association with the CPM. Explaining her decision, Suja stated that the CPM lacks the secularism it publicly professes and that her departure is a protest against the party’s current stances.

This marks the second high-profile exit from the CPM in Kollam district within a week. Last week, former Kottarakkara MLA Aisha Potty also left the party to join the Congress, underscoring a notable period of political realignment in the region.
