MT Vasudevan Nair’s Daughters Demand Withdrawal of Controversial Book, Allege Defamation

Kozhikode: The daughters of acclaimed Malayalam writer M. T. Vasudevan Nair have publicly denounced the book ‘MT Space: Bashpeekrithayude Aaram Viral,’ co-authored by Didi Damodaran and Echmukutty and published by Bookworm. In a joint statement released on Facebook, M.T.’s daughters, Sithara and Aswathy Nair, asserted that a significant portion of the book, which purports to narrate the life of M.T.’s first wife, Pramila Nair, contains information that is factually incorrect and utterly false.
The sisters vehemently alleged that the publication, appearing 26 years after Pramila Nair’s death and a year after the passing of their father, M. T. Vasudevan Nair, is a deliberate and malicious attempt to defame and tarnish the reputation of their father and their family. They contend that the authors’ primary motive is to achieve notoriety and boost the book’s sales through this controversial approach. Sithara and Aswathy pointed out that it is apparent the book is based on mere hearsay, and many of the references and allegations made against M.T. within its pages are entirely unfounded. This situation, they stated, has caused considerable emotional distress to them and their entire family.
They appealed to the public and the cultural community, emphasizing that deceased individuals should not be slandered for the sake of fame and financial gain. The daughters informed their readers that the content presented in the book comprises half-truths, outright falsehoods, and deliberate distortions. Consequently, they expressed strong confidence that the cultural sphere would collectively reject the book. Sithara and Aswathy concluded their statement by demanding the immediate withdrawal of the book by the parties concerned, warning that failure to comply would result in appropriate legal action.
