Prime Minister Modi to Kickstart Assembly Election Campaign in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. His visit comes 27 days after the first BJP Mayor in Kerala took the oath of office in the capital city. On Friday, the Prime Minister will not only unveil the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s development blueprint but also officially kickstart the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections.
The BJP is actively working to ensure the presence of 25,000 people for the convention scheduled to take place at Putharikandam Maidan.
It was a key promise by the BJP that the Prime Minister would announce the development document within 45 days of the party assuming power in the Corporation. In line with this commitment, the BJP leadership has already proposed several projects aimed at the comprehensive development of the capital city.
A meticulously prepared development blueprint, formulated under the leadership of Mayor V.V. Rajesh based on valuable feedback gathered from various wards, has already been submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office through state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
**Key proposals put forward by the BJP for the Corporation’s development include:**
* Establishment of a centralized waste treatment plant to effectively address the city’s waste management challenges, drawing inspiration from the Indore model.
* Implementation of a project modeled after the successful Ganga Mission for the systematic cleaning and rejuvenation of the Karamana River, Killi River, Aamayizhanjan Canal, and Parvathi Puthanar.
* Development of a comprehensive drainage project across all 101 wards, inspired by the Surat model, to effectively prevent waterlogging issues within the city.
* Initiation of a dedicated pilgrimage tourism project that will encompass significant religious sites such as Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Attukal Temple, Beemapally, and Vettukadu Church.
* A robust housing scheme aiming to construct 40 houses per ward annually, totaling four thousand houses each year and an ambitious target of 20,000 houses over five years. This initiative will leverage contributions from both the Corporation and the Central government, supplemented by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from leading companies.
* Expedited action and fast-tracking of the proposed Thiruvananthapuram Metro project.
* Formulation and implementation of special projects specifically designed for coastal areas that are vulnerable to sea erosion.
* Extensive expansion of the network of Jan Aushadhi medical stores throughout the city to enhance accessibility to affordable medicines.
