Seven-Year-Old Critically Burned in Termite Eradication Attempt in Poochakkal

POOCHAKKAL: A seven-year-old boy sustained severe burn injuries after a fire lit to eradicate termites near his home spread uncontrollably. The incident occurred on Sunday in Pallippuram Puthan Nivarathil, involving Rayaan (7), son of Arun. The child suffered burns to approximately 85 percent of his body.
The accident was caused by the use of thinner to ignite the fire for termite destruction. The thinner quickly ignited, first spreading to a nearby container and then engulfing the child who was standing nearby. Rayaan’s father, Arun, also sustained burns while attempting to rescue his son.
Immediately following the accident, Rayaan was rushed to a private hospital in Cherthala. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to a private hospital in Kochi. The child is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
