Muslim League Questions CPM on Candidate Selection in Hindu-Majority Areas, Accuses of Promoting Extremism

KOZHIKODE: Muslim League General Secretary PMA Salam has launched a sharp criticism against Minister Saji Cherian’s controversial statement. PMA Salam stated that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has lost its composure following the severe setback in the local body elections and is now making desperate remarks out of an eagerness to secure victory.
“What is the meaning of the social progress Kerala has achieved so far? Who is destroying it? Is democracy determined by names? The Muslim League itself stands as an obstacle to the growth of communalism. You cannot find another political party that champions communal harmony, mutual unity, and love like the League. The League is a party that adopts exemplary approaches during critical junctures. The results of the local body elections clearly demonstrate that the general public of Kerala will not accept such claims, even if made by Saji Cherian, Balan, or Pinarayi, while attempting to obscure these fundamental facts,” PMA Salam asserted.
Salam further alleged that the Marxist Party has appeased both minority and majority communalism at different times. He questioned, “Wasn’t it the CPM that encouraged all extremist organizations in Kerala, claiming the Muslim League wasn’t communal enough? Who fostered the PDP? The CPM governed Pathanamthitta Municipality with the support of SDPI, and now they have lost every single seat. It was the League that defeated them in Pathanamthitta,” he added.
Critiquing the CPM’s electoral strategies, Salam asked, “What exactly is the Marxist Party doing? Aren’t they fielding Muslim candidates in Muslim-majority areas? Has the Marxist Party ever fielded a Muslim candidate anywhere where Hindus are predominant? Even the BJP fielded a Badusha Thangal in Malappuram. All political parties consider the communal equations of a region to secure votes and field candidates accordingly. Isn’t that why the Marxist Party fields individuals in Malappuram district who have no genuine connection to the party or communism? In constituencies across Malappuram district, they have brought forward wealthy dignitaries from the Muslim community who know nothing about Marxism,” PMA Salam concluded.
