Rapper Vedan Concert in Kasaragod Ends in Tragedy: One Killed, Several Injured in Stampede and Train Accident

Kasaragod: A music concert featuring rapper Vedan, held as part of the Bekal Beach Fest in Kasaragod, took a tragic turn when a stampede injured several attendees, including children. The event was subsequently halted due to the uncontrollable crowd, leading to a fatal incident during the dispersal.
A 19-year-old youth, identified as Shivanand from Pooinachi, was killed after being hit by a train while attempting to leave the venue. Reports indicate he was struck by the Tirunelveli-Jamnagar Express, which was en route to Mangaluru. The incident occurred around 10 PM, and the loco pilot of a passing train later discovered the body.
The concert itself experienced significant delays, starting an hour and a half behind schedule due to the rapper’s late arrival. Shortly after the performance began, the sheer volume of the crowd became unmanageable, leading to a stampede where several individuals fainted amidst the chaos. Authorities promptly intervened to stop the music event as panic escalated.
Those who sustained injuries in the stampede were quickly transported to local hospitals. Fortunately, none of the injuries reported were deemed serious. However, the tragedy deepened when Shivanand and another young man were struck by a train while crossing railway tracks in an attempt to depart from the crowded area. Shivanand succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while the accompanying youth suffered severe injuries.
This incident marks a concerning trend, as a similar stampede-related accident occurred previously in Kasaragod during a concert by Hanaan Shah, highlighting ongoing challenges in crowd management at large public events in the region.
