Elderly Man Dies After Falling into Unmarked Road Pit in Vadakara, Kozhikode

VADAKARA, Kozhikode: An elderly man tragically lost his life after falling into an open pit dug on the road for construction purposes in Villyappally, Vadakode. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, has raised serious concerns about safety protocols at construction sites.
The deceased has been identified as Moosa, a 55-year-old resident of Villyappally. According to local reports, Moosa had left his home around 6 PM on Sunday to purchase groceries. When he failed to return home late into the night, his family and local residents initiated a search operation.
Moosa was eventually found dead around 11 PM, having fallen into a pit that had been dug for the construction of a culvert on the road. The accident occurred while he was on his way back home after buying the necessary items.
Investigations revealed a severe lapse in safety measures at the construction site. There were no adequate safety arrangements or warning boards placed around the excavated pit to alert pedestrians. Local residents stated that the contractors responsible for the culvert construction only installed warning boards on the road after the fatal accident had already taken place. This delayed action has drawn criticism from the community, highlighting the neglect of public safety during ongoing roadworks.
