Missing Six-Year-Old Suhan Found Dead in Palakkad Pond

A six-year-old boy, Suhan, who went missing from his home in Palakkad on Saturday, was tragically discovered dead in a pond near his residence on Sunday morning. The incident has cast a shadow of grief and suspicion over the Erumancode area of Ambattupalayam.

Suhan, the youngest son of Muhammed Anas and Touhita, reportedly left his home around 12 PM on Saturday following an argument with his elder brother, Rayan, over a television program. Distraught by the dispute, the child ventured out, prompting immediate concern from his family when he did not return.

A frantic search operation was initiated by the local police and residents, continuing late into Saturday night. Despite extensive efforts across the vicinity, there was no trace of Suhan. The search resumed with renewed vigour on Sunday morning, with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue services. Their focus turned to nearby water bodies, leading to the heartbreaking discovery of Suhan’s body in a pond located approximately 600 meters from his home.

The circumstances surrounding Suhan’s death have raised questions. Thathamangalam Municipal Chairperson Sumesh Achuthan voiced his suspicions, stating, “I do not believe the child accidentally fell into the pond. The pond is not adjacent to the road, and a canal separates the road from the pond. It is unlikely that someone walking on the road would fall in. A detailed investigation is necessary. Furthermore, it is improbable for a child of his age to walk such a distance alone.”

Neighbors corroborated the timeline, recalling seeing Suhan leave his home visibly upset around noon on Saturday. His brother, Rayan, mentioned that he did not pursue Suhan immediately, assuming he would return shortly after their disagreement.

Suhan’s body has been transferred to the Chittur Government Taluk Hospital for post-mortem examination, which is expected to shed more light on the cause of death. Suhan’s father, Muhammed Anas, is currently working abroad, while his mother, Touhita, a private school teacher, was reportedly not at home when the child went missing. The community awaits further details as the investigation unfolds.
