Senior Journalist Mathew A. Thomas Passes Away at 60

Thiruvananthapuram: Senior journalist Mathew A. Thomas, 60, of Kuthiyirachira Aviyottu House in Punalur, Kollam, has passed away. Thomas was a highly respected figure in Kerala’s media landscape, having served as a Senior Political Correspondent and Bureau Chief for both Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam at The New Indian Express. He began his distinguished journalism career with the prominent Malayalam daily, Malayala Manorama.

Thomas passed away at his residence in Punalur while his family members were at a relative’s house. Following inquest procedures, his body has been transferred to the Punalur Taluk Hospital mortuary.

The circumstances of his passing indicate he had returned alone to his Punalur home on Friday night after a recent visit with his family to his wife’s ancestral residence in Mavelikkara. On Saturday morning, his wife’s attempts to reach him by phone went unanswered, prompting her to alert neighbors. Upon their arrival, he was discovered deceased in a chair in the hall. Preliminary indications suggest heart failure as the cause of death.

The funeral services for Mathew A. Thomas are scheduled for Wednesday at 11 AM, following a ceremony at his home. He is survived by his wife, Joby Mathew, and their son, Kiran Thomas Mathew.
