Lali James Hardens Stance Against Congress Leadership After Suspension, Alleges ‘Money for Mayor’s Post’

Lali James, who was suspended from the Congress party following disputes over the Thrissur Corporation Mayor’s position, is intensifying her opposition against the party leadership. Her expulsion from the primary membership of the Congress came after she leveled serious allegations that the Mayor’s position was sold for financial gain.
Following the suspension, Lali declared that she would not be intimidated into retreating and would remain steadfast with the party. She criticized the leadership, asserting that instead of an immediate suspension for speaking openly, they should have demonstrated political decorum by inviting her for a discussion. She emphasized that while she is not driven by a desire for power, it is her nature to speak out against injustice.
Lali further disclosed that the District Congress Committee (DCC) leadership had requested funds for the party, which she refused to provide. Regarding the alleged ‘money box’ for the Mayor’s position, she stated that it was something she had heard about, but she had not personally witnessed the exchange of money. Her allegations that ‘the position was sold to those who paid’ surfaced ahead of Friday’s mayoral election. She claimed that despite serving as a councilor for four terms, she was overlooked because she was considered an ordinary person, even though the majority of councilors had proposed her name.
The urgent action of suspension was initiated by KPCC President Sunny Joseph on Friday night, based on a report submitted by the Thrissur DCC concerning Lali James’s controversial statements.
