Thrissur Mayor Post Sold for Cash, Claims Congress Leader Lali James

Congress leader Lali James has publicly voiced her strong dissatisfaction after being overlooked for the Thrissur Mayor position. James has leveled serious allegations, asserting that the party leadership “sold” the mayoral post for financial gain.
Speaking to the media, Lali James alleged that the Mayor-elect, Niji Justin, and her husband had met with AICC leaders, reportedly carrying bags of cash. James claimed that she was consequently sidelined by the party solely because she lacked the financial means to offer.
“I am a widow. Just two days ago, the Mayor position that was rightfully mine was sold,” Lali James stated with evident distress. She further recounted that upon realizing she would not be appointed Mayor, she sought out Therambil. She described the deep pain she felt when her daughter, heartbroken, questioned Therambil about the decision.
Despite the majority of councilors having advocated for her candidature, James maintained that she was still overlooked. She recalled asking if she could be made Mayor for at least one year, and while an offer of one year in an interim capacity was extended, she ultimately refused it. Lali James also indicated that she had not yet made a decision regarding voting for the Mayor candidate and had not received the party whip.
