Mullappally Ramachandran Warns P.V. Anvar, States UDF is Not a ‘Roadside Inn’

Kozhikode: Former KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran has issued a stern warning to the United Democratic Front (UDF) regarding its ongoing alliance expansion efforts ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Ramachandran emphasized the inherent difficulties in bringing everyone into the front and accommodating demands for MLA positions, stating unequivocally that the UDF cannot be perceived as a mere “roadside inn.”
Addressing the media, Mullappally Ramachandran asserted that the UDF should not become the ultimate refuge for opportunists. He reiterated his stance that the front is not a temporary stopover for political aspirants. Furthermore, he noted his lack of awareness regarding Vishnupram Chandrasekharan’s party and urged P.V. Anvar to exercise greater restraint in his public statements.
Ramachandran elaborated on his concerns, stating, “P.V. Anvar should exercise some restraint, no matter the context. Speaking against party discipline or making public statements that go against the party line, whether within the front or the party, is not beneficial. I do not agree with the UDF transforming into the last resort for opportunists. Only those who are genuinely aligned with the policies and principles of the United Democratic Front should be considered for inclusion in the alliance. I genuinely do not even know about Vishnupram Chandrasekharan’s party; I don’t even know who he is.”
Mullappally Ramachandran’s strong remarks come in the wake of P.V. Anvar being granted associate membership in the UDF, a decision that has seemingly prompted a re-evaluation of the front’s expansion strategy.
Concurrently, the Congress party has made a decisive move to exclude the Kamaraj Congress, an erstwhile constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), from future UDF affiliations. The Congress has clarified that even if Vishnupram Chandrasekharan, the leader of the Kamaraj Congress, expresses renewed interest, his party will not be integrated into the front. This decision stems from the Congress’s assessment that Chandrasekharan’s prior overtures were merely a strategic maneuver to gain leverage and consideration within the NDA.
