CPM Leader and Associates Threaten SI, Obstruct Duty at Kollam Police Station

Kollam: A Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and his associates have been booked for allegedly threatening a Sub-Inspector (SI) and obstructing official duties at the Eravipuram Police Station in Kollam. The incident, which took place on Saturday afternoon, involved former councilor M. Sajeev and ten others who reportedly barged into the station demanding the release of a seized vehicle.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the group, led by M. Sajeev, entered the office of SI R.U. Ranjith around 2 PM. They placed flattened rice (avil), puffed rice (malar), and fruit, wrapped in a plantain leaf, on the SI’s desk. When SI Ranjith questioned their actions, the individuals allegedly verbally abused him and attempted to physically assault him. Other police officers intervened promptly to de-escalate the situation and separate the individuals.

The altercation stemmed from the police seizure of a motorcycle with expired insurance. The vehicle was confiscated following an incident on election day when a youth from Pallimukku, riding the said bike, hit and injured a petrol pump employee. A subsequent police inspection revealed that the vehicle lacked valid insurance, leading to its impoundment.

Police officials stated that M. Sajeev had initially demanded the release of the motorcycle. However, SI Ranjith informed him that the vehicle could not be released due to legal protocols concerning the expired insurance. It was in response to this refusal that Sajeev and his associates allegedly arrived at the police station to issue threats and create a disturbance. A case has been registered against M. Sajeev and the ten other individuals for obstruction of official duty, threatening police officers, and creating a confrontational environment within the police station premises.
