Alappuzha Couple Dies After Self-Immolation Attempt and Rescue Bid

A tragic incident in Charumood, Alappuzha, resulted in the death of a husband and wife who succumbed to severe burn injuries. Raghu (54), an auto driver from Ashanvila, Payyanalloor, Nooranad, and his wife Suja (48), passed away after Suja set herself on fire, and Raghu was injured while attempting to save her.

The incident occurred at their home on December 8, at approximately 4 PM, when Suja doused herself with kerosene and ignited it. Her husband, Raghu, who was present at the scene, sustained severe burns in his valiant effort to rescue her.

Both were rushed to Adoor General Hospital immediately after the incident. However, due to the critical nature of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.

Suja tragically passed away at 8:30 PM on Sunday, while Raghu succumbed to his injuries at 8:30 AM on Monday. Preliminary reports suggest that ongoing family issues were the underlying cause that led to this devastating event.

The couple is survived by their son, Sumod, and daughter-in-law, Anju. They also had another son, Suku, who is deceased. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
