M.M. Mani Criticizes Voters for ‘Ingratitude’ After LDF Election Setback

Idukki: As the local body election results entered their final phase, revealing a significant setback for the Left Democratic Front (LDF), senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader M.M. Mani made a controversial statement, accusing voters of ‘ingratitude’.

Mani alleged that the public, after readily accepting various benefits provided by the government, effectively ‘betrayed’ the front at the ballot box. He made these remarks while addressing the media regarding the LDF’s unexpected defeat.

According to Mani, if the votes had been cast based purely on the extensive development initiatives and public welfare programs implemented by the LDF government, the front would not have suffered such a considerable loss. He highlighted that despite receiving crucial benefits, including pensions, people still chose to vote against the LDF.

“Pensions were disbursed with precision and regularity. After receiving all these benefits and having their meals, everyone voted based on some fleeting emotion. Even those who regularly receive pensions voted against the Left Democratic Front. The people have shown ingratitude,” Mani asserted.

He further stated that the LDF would thoroughly examine the reasons behind their defeat and would implement the necessary corrective measures to move forward. Mani also added that the current electoral outcome cannot yet be definitively characterized as an ‘anti-incumbency sentiment,’ emphasizing that the party leadership would conduct a detailed assessment before drawing such conclusions.
