Rahul Easwar on Hunger Strike in Jail Over ‘False Case’

Thiruvananthapuram: Rahul Easwar, who was remanded in custody in a case involving the alleged insult of a victim, has commenced a hunger strike in jail, refusing food. The Thiruvananthapuram Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court had ordered his remand for 14 days. Easwar informed jail authorities of his decision to abstain from food, having only consumed water yesterday. Upon the issuance of the remand order, Rahul Easwar had publicly stated that he considered this a false case and vowed to undertake a hunger strike in jail.
Deepa Rahul Easwar, his wife, addressed the media, asserting that Rahul’s protest is a fight for justice. She indicated that further legal actions are under consideration. Deepa criticized the police’s approach, suggesting their method was to first arrest and then investigate to establish guilt.
Meanwhile, the Ernakulam Cyber Police have also registered cases against two additional individuals, Razak P.A. and Raju Vidyakumar, for allegedly insulting the victim in the same case. Charges were filed under the IT Act for publicly displaying the victim’s pictures on social media.
Concurrently, the search continues for Rahul Mankootathil, who remains at large as an accused in cases of sexual assault and abortion. There is still no clear information on whether Rahul has departed the state. The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in charge of law and order has directed that the investigation be expanded to more areas and conducted at the district level.
The inquiry is also concentrating on Rahul Mankootathil’s relatives, friends, and any individuals who may have aided him in absconding. Rahul Mankootathil’s anticipatory bail application is scheduled to be heard by the court on Wednesday.
