CPM Local Secretary Arrested for Attempting to Manhandle BLO in Kasaragod

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) local secretary has been arrested in Kasaragod following an alleged attempt to manhandle a Booth Level Officer (BLO). The arrested individual is A. Surendran of Chappakkal, who serves as the Standing Committee Chairman of Delampadi Panchayat and also holds the position of Pandi Local Secretary. The Adoor police initiated the arrest based on a complaint filed by BLO P. Ajith.
The complaint details that the Booth Level Officer was subjected to verbal abuse and an attempted physical assault for allegedly failing to provide an SIR (Standardized Information Report) form. The incident, as per BLO P. Ajith’s complaint, occurred on Thursday near the Chappakkal Community Hall.
Reportedly, the BLO had visited the area to collect SIR forms. A prior dispute had arisen between Surendran and Ajith concerning the non-delivery of an SIR form to a resident named Pushpa in the ward. The person to whom Ajith had initially entrusted the form had not delivered it to Pushpa. Consequently, Ajith personally visited Pushpa’s residence to hand over the form. Following this, the Panchayat member allegedly attempted to assault the BLO. The incident gained significant attention after a video of the altercation circulated, prompting the Collector to intervene in the matter. P. Ajith, the complainant, is currently employed as an LDC Clerk at the Bandadukka Beverage Corporation.
