Kerala Minister Veena George Highlights ‘We Care’ Helpline for Women Facing Abuse

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister Veena George has reiterated the state government and the Women’s Development Corporation’s commitment to supporting women experiencing physical and mental abuse. The minister shared a 24-hour helpline number, urging those in distress to reach out for assistance.

Minister George conveyed her message through a Facebook post, which included a graphic titled ‘Who Cares, We Care,’ emphasizing the continuous availability of the helpline. Her statement comes amid heightened attention to issues of women’s safety, particularly in the wake of recent allegations of sexual exploitation against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mankootathil.

In her detailed Facebook post, the minister encouraged individuals not to give up in life, even when faced with bitter experiences from trusted individuals or others. She advised against hesitation in confronting such issues, stating that if personal courtesies and democratic principles are violated, leading to threats, blackmail, or physical and mental abuse, it is crucial to resist. The minister assured that the state government and the Women’s Development Corporation stand in solidarity with those seeking justice, overcoming crises, and reclaiming their dreams, while preserving their privacy.

The ‘181’ helpline offers round-the-clock support, including counseling, legal advice, and emergency protection. Minister George urged those in need not to hesitate and to directly call the helpline for immediate assistance.
