Minister Sivankutty Changes Stance on Rahul Mamkootathil’s Participation in School Science Festival

General Education and Labour Minister V. Sivankutty has changed his previous stance that Rahul Mamkootathil would not be stopped from participating and that he is not a convicted person. Sivankutty clarified that the Public Education Department views seriously the issue raised regarding MLA Rahul Mamkootathil’s participation in the inaugural ceremony of the State School Science Festival.
The department understands the dissatisfaction and concerns arising from the presence of an individual facing sexual harassment allegations at a public event attended by a large community including children, parents, and teachers, especially an event aimed at promoting student advancement in science. Such controversies are not conducive to the lofty goals of the Public Education Department.
While a public representative cannot be legally barred from a stage, every individual has a moral responsibility and decorum to uphold when appearing before the public. The allegations against Rahul Mamkootathil are currently under investigation. Let the law take its course. However, the government believes that it is appropriate for individuals facing allegations to voluntarily withdraw from platforms meant to be role models for the public, especially children.
The Minister also stated that instructions will be given to ensure that no situation arises in future public education department events that would adversely affect the confidence and moral values of students and the general public. This government remains committed to upholding the dignity of the public education sector.
