Sister Dies After Jumping into Well in Neyyattinkara; Brother Critically Injured in Rescue Attempt

Neyyattinkara: A tragic incident unfolded on Monday evening in Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, where a 26-year-old woman, Archanahendra, died by suicide after jumping into a well following a family dispute. Her younger brother, Bhupendra (22), who bravely attempted to rescue her, was saved by the Fire Force but sustained serious injuries and has been hospitalized.

The incident occurred around 5:30 PM at Sarada Sadanam in Pulluvila Karichal Kalluvila. Police confirmed that family issues were the underlying cause of Archanahendra’s drastic step, clarifying that the disputes were not with her husband.

Archanahendra, along with her husband Aseem Sheikh, operated an Akshaya center in Poovar. The well into which she jumped was notably deep, making the water invisible from the surface, complicating rescue efforts.

Upon receiving the alert, Fire Force officials R. Dinesh and S.U. Arun quickly responded. They descended into the well and successfully located and rescued Bhupendra, who was found clinging to the last ring of the well. In a subsequent descent, the team retrieved Archanahendra’s body.

Archanahendra’s body has been transferred to the Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. She is survived by her children, Abi Sheikh and Barnasha Sheikh.
