K.C. Venugopal Predicts UDF Victory, Labels Government’s Anti-Poverty Claims ‘Eyewash’

Alappuzha: Senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal has confidently stated that the United Democratic Front (UDF) will assume power in the upcoming Kerala assembly elections. Speaking to reporters in Alappuzha, Venugopal asserted that a “government of boys” – a colloquial reference often implying a fresh, dynamic administration – would be formed in the state.
Venugopal launched a scathing attack on the current Pinarayi Vijayan-led government, dismissing its recent announcements as mere “eyewash” designed to mislead the public. His remarks come as a continuation of the opposition’s criticism following Chief Minister Vijayan’s declaration of Kerala as an “extremely poor-free” state.
The Congress leader contended that the government’s current pronouncements are driven by the knowledge that a UDF administration would genuinely implement effective measures for poverty alleviation. He further stressed that the public would not be deceived by these superficial declarations, and the people of Kerala are well aware that the number of impoverished individuals cannot be reduced through mere statements alone.
Venugopal criticized the government for failing to undertake scientific or effective interventions to combat extreme poverty. He accused the administration of actively hindering eligible individuals from receiving due benefits, characterizing these actions as detrimental to the poor. He also voiced concerns that the special assistance programs intended for the extremely poor might be abolished under the current regime.
