Boat Crew Rescues Woman and Her Rescuer From Kollam Lake

Kollam: The crew of the Water Transport Department successfully rescued a young woman who jumped into the Ashtamudi Lake in an apparent suicide attempt following an argument with her lover. Additionally, they saved a young man who was drowning while attempting to rescue her. The dramatic incident occurred yesterday morning at 11:15 AM near the Kollam Ashramam Link Road bridge.
The 22-year-old woman, a native of Kanjirappally, Kottayam, who is currently studying for bank coaching in Kollam, was the individual who jumped into the water. Rajesh, a local resident who witnessed the event, promptly alerted his friend Muneer. Muneer immediately responded by jumping into the lake, grabbing the woman’s hair, and attempting to pull her towards a pillar of the bridge. However, he was unsuccessful and quickly became exhausted.
At that crucial moment, a boat belonging to the Water Transport Department, which happened to be passing by, noticed the urgent signals from Rajesh and other onlookers and swiftly headed towards the scene.
One of the boat crew members immediately dived into the lake and pulled the woman to safety. Following this, a rope was extended to the struggling Muneer, and he was also rescued from the water.
The woman later informed the police that her suicide attempt was a result of an argument with her lover. She was initially transported to the district hospital for medical attention and subsequently transferred to a private hospital.
Muneer, a resident of Pallithottam Gandhi Nagar, who courageously attempted to save the woman, is reportedly trained in water rescue operations. It has been noted that he had previously rescued another individual who had fallen into the sea in Tamil Nadu.
