MLA U Prathibha Criticizes ‘Unclad’ Celebrity Inaugurations and Mohanlal’s TV Show

Alappuzha: CPM MLA U Prathibha has sparked controversy with her recent remarks regarding celebrity appearances at inaugurations and a popular television show hosted by actor Mohanlal. Speaking at a cultural event in Kayamkulam, she stated that “now, unclad stars are enough for inaugurations” in the locality, and when such celebrities arrive, everyone “rushes in.”
Prathibha urged for an end to this practice, insisting that these celebrities should be told to wear appropriate clothing. She preemptively addressed potential backlash, stating that people should not accuse her of promoting moral policing for voicing her opinion.
“Unfortunately, there is a kind of madness towards film stars in our country. I don’t understand why. There is a new culture in Kerala where film stars, especially unclad film stars, are brought for shop inaugurations. Why is that? If an unclad person comes, everyone rushes in there. This trend should change. They should be told to come dressed,” Prathibha elaborated. She further added, “Now, don’t come at me saying this is moral policing. One should dress decently. We live in a country where there is freedom to wear clothes or not wear them. If someone says tomorrow that we should walk around naked, we have no right to question it.”
In addition to her comments on inaugurations, U Prathibha also directed criticism towards Mohanlal’s famous television show. She described it as a “peeping program” where participants are secretly watched while they sleep, and comments are allegedly made on whether their clothes are tight. Prathibha pointed out that an “immortal actor” is hosting this program.
She concluded her speech by emphasizing that in a democracy, it is not “star kings” who should hold prominence, but “ordinary people who work among the public,” and that society should be brave enough to assert this.
