Toll Collection at Paliyekkara Not Resumed; High Court to Decide on Thursday

Toll collection at Paliyekkara will not resume today. The High Court announced that a decision regarding the permission to collect toll would be made on Thursday. This decision comes in the wake of the collapse of the service road at Muringoor. The decision on resuming toll collection will be taken after examining the District Collector’s report. Last week, the High Court had directed that toll collection could resume from Monday under certain conditions. It was understood that the order related to the resumption of toll collection would be issued today.
The court had temporarily halted toll collection at Paliyekkara a month ago due to severe traffic congestion. The National Highway Authority had approached the Supreme Court to resume toll collection, but no favorable order was issued. The High Court had ruled that toll could not be collected without repairing the road. Although the National Highway Authority had requested the High Court on August 28 for permission to restart toll collection, stating that the service roads had been repaired, the court did not accept the request.
