Teacher Accused of Hitting Student Who Fell Asleep After Caring for Sick Mother in Kollam

Kollam: A complaint has been filed against a teacher in Kollam for allegedly hitting a Plus One student on the head with a folded book. The incident occurred while the student was reportedly resting her head on the desk in the classroom. Following the alleged assault, the student experienced numbness and fever in her head and subsequently sought treatment at Kundara Taluk Hospital.
The incident took place at CVKM School in East Kallada. The teacher reportedly struck the student after entering the classroom on Friday afternoon.
According to reports, the student had arrived at school severely sleep-deprived, having spent the entire previous night nursing her critically ill mother, who suffers from a heart condition. She reportedly fell asleep with her head on the desk after lunch. Upon noticing the student sleeping, the teacher allegedly used a thick book to hit the child on the head.
Initially, the student did not inform her family about the numbness and discomfort she felt in her head. However, by Sunday evening, she developed a fever and body aches. Alarmed by these escalating symptoms, the girl eventually disclosed the teacher’s assault to her family, prompting them to seek immediate medical attention.
The doctor who treated the student indicated a possibility of internal bleeding in her head and prescribed four days of complete rest. Furthermore, a CT scan was recommended if the student experienced any episodes of vomiting. The East Kallada police have since visited the student’s home, recorded her statement, and commenced an investigation into the matter.
