In light of the increasing number of electrocution deaths in Kerala, it is crucial to review and implement safety precautions to prevent such accidents.
**Safety Precautions:**
* Never handle electrical appliances with wet hands or a wet body.
* Always switch off and unplug electrical devices when not in use.
* Ensure that all wires and plugs are in good condition before use.
* Install switches and sockets at heights inaccessible to young children.
* Secure electrical wires to prevent pets from chewing on them.
**Home Wiring Safety:**
* Have your home’s electrical wiring inspected regularly by qualified experts.
* Always rely on certified electricians for any repair or maintenance work.
* Avoid using substandard wires and switches.
* Installing an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) or Residual Current Device (RCD) in all electrical outlets can significantly enhance safety.
**Situations Requiring Caution:**
* Keep electrical appliances in kitchens and bathrooms away from water sources.
* Avoid touching electrical posts, transformers, or exposed wires.
* Refrain from using electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
* Exercise extreme caution when felling trees or conducting construction work near overhead power lines.
**In Case of Emergency:**
If someone is electrocuted, immediately switch off the main power supply. If unable to do so, use a non-conductive object, such as a dry wooden stick, to separate the person from the electrical source. Seek immediate medical attention.
