Evidence gathered by the Crime Branch indicates that the woman experienced severe and uncontrolled bleeding after consuming pills for a forced abortion, subsequently necessitating urgent medical attention at a private hospital in the state capital.

The special investigation team revealed that Rahul Mankootathil had promised marriage to the 26-year-old victim, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram district. Relying on this assurance, the woman was preparing to carry the pregnancy to term. Despite her repeated attempts to inform Mankootathil about her pregnancy, he reportedly dismissed her claims. The gravity of the situation became apparent only after the fetus had developed to 16 weeks of gestation.

Sources indicate that the Crime Branch has initiated proceedings to record the statement of the doctor who examined the victim. The investigation is also focusing on another friend of Rahul who operates a pharmacy business. A key aspect of the ongoing inquiry is to ascertain how these potentially dangerous contraceptive pills were supplied to the woman without a valid medical prescription, a matter that could lead to severe health complications.

Furthermore, the investigation team is reportedly in the process of collecting call data records belonging to Rahul Mankootathil and his close associates. The Crime Branch is also conducting a thorough examination of any notable changes in Rahul Mankootathil’s financial status subsequent to the Palakkad by-election, as part of the broader inquiry.
