Orthodox Church Congratulates Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan

Baselios Marthoma Mathews, the supreme head of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, extended his congratulations to C.P. Radhakrishnan on his election as the 15th Vice President of India. Mathews expressed his hope that Radhakrishnan, known for his gentle demeanor and ability to unite people, will successfully fulfill his new responsibilities. The congratulatory message was conveyed via a social media post.
Mathews highlighted Radhakrishnan’s long-standing support for the constructive social interventions undertaken by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. He noted that Radhakrishnan, as a dear friend, had always encouraged the church’s charitable endeavors, which serve all communities regardless of caste or religion. This understanding, Mathews added, was fostered through discussions with Malayalam-speaking governors.
A photograph of C.P. Radhakrishnan’s visit to the Church headquarters in Kerala was also shared by Baselios Marthoma Mathews. The note further emphasized Radhakrishnan’s dedication to uplifting marginalized sections of society, describing it as a core mission of his life.
Radhakrishnan had initially expressed interest in attending the third anniversary of the ‘Sahodaran Charitable Project’ alongside Governor C.V. Anandabose, though circumstances prevented it. However, his commitment to the church was evident when he promptly visited the headquarters upon arriving in Kerala, spending more than half an hour beyond the officially scheduled time at Devalokam to gain a deeper understanding of the institution.
During their meeting on his birthday, May 4th, Radhakrishnan articulated his vision for transforming underdeveloped villages in Maharashtra into model communities, reflecting his dedication to social progress. He later served as the chief guest at the ‘Druxit Conclave’ organized by the Church on June 14th, an initiative aimed at combating drug abuse.
In the Vice-Presidential election, C.P. Radhakrishnan secured a victory over Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy. Out of 767 Members of Parliament who cast their votes, Radhakrishnan garnered 452 votes, significantly surpassing Reddy’s 300 votes.
