Kerala Braces for Thunderstorms and Rain; Yellow Alert Issued for Four Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of light rain accompanied by strong thunderstorms in Kerala today. In its five-day rain forecast, the Meteorological Department has issued yellow alerts for various districts. Today, the department has declared yellow alerts for 4 districts.

The rain warning has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted. Heavy rainfall refers to precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation persists over the Gulf of Mannar. Another cyclonic circulation is also present at a higher level over the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts. Kerala is likely to experience light to moderate rain for the next 5 days. The IMD has also warned of isolated strong rain with thunderstorms and strong winds at speeds of 30 to 40 kmph on September 9 and 10.

The India Meteorological Department further stated that isolated light rain is likely in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts over the next 3 hours.
