Kerala Rain Alert: Yellow Alert Issued for Various Districts Amid Thunderstorm Forecast

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has updated its rain alert for Kerala, issuing a yellow alert for several districts. The state is expected to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kilometers per hour from today, September 8, 2025, until September 10, 2025.

Fishermen along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts have been advised that there are no obstructions to fishing activities today, September 8, 2025. However, a special cautionary warning has been issued for specific sea areas.

On September 8, 2025, strong winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 55 kilometers per hour, and occasionally reaching up to 65 kilometers per hour, are likely over the central-west Arabian Sea, adjoining north-west Arabian Sea, and south-west Arabian Sea.

The IMD has declared a yellow alert for the following districts:

September 9, 2025: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram.

September 10, 2025: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram.

A yellow alert indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall, defined as precipitation between 64.5 millimeters and 115.5 millimeters within a 24-hour period. Residents in these districts are advised to stay updated with official weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
