Medical College Equipment Row: Probe Against Dr. Haris to Be Closed

Health Department to Halt Investigation; No Action Recommended Against Urology Head

The Health Department is set to conclude its investigation against Dr. Haris Chirakkal, head of the Urology Department at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, who had exposed the shortage of surgical equipment.

Reports indicate that there will be no further inquiry into the missing equipment, and the Director of Medical Education (DME) is expected to submit a report on Monday without recommending action against anyone. Meanwhile, Dr. Haris is anticipated to resume his duties today after a week-long leave.

Health Minister Veena George had reportedly assured the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) that no action would be taken against Dr. Haris.

It is understood that there will be no investigation into the disappearance of the equipment from the hospital, the unusual discovery of a box in Dr. Haris’s room, or the CCTV footage related to the incident. This decision comes after the claim of an “unusual box” in Dr. Haris’s room was reportedly debunked. The doctors’ association also stated that the missing equipment was of no relevance, and the KGMCTA has called for a study on the facilities available to doctors at the Medical College.
