Police Register Case in Sharjah Mother-Daughter Death; Husband and In-laws Booked for Abetment, Dowry Harassment

Kerala Police have registered a case in connection with the tragic deaths of Malayali woman Vipanchika and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter in Sharjah, where Vipanchika allegedly took her own life after killing her child. The Kundara Police have filed charges of abetment to suicide against her husband Nidheesh, his sister, and her father. As all three accused are currently in Sharjah, arrests will be made upon their arrival in India.
A case has also been registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act. The action follows a complaint lodged by Vipanchika’s mother, Shailaja.
Shailaja’s statement was recorded by the police yesterday. She informed the police that her daughter had been subjected to torture since her marriage. Shailaja alleged that Nidheesh’s sister had even shaved Vipanchika’s head to disfigure her, and that the continuous harassment ultimately led to her daughter’s suicide. Vipanchika’s mother has handed over digital evidence of the alleged torture and a suicide note to the police.
Vipanchika’s mother had also lodged complaints with the Indian Consulate, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Chief Minister. She has further requested a re-postmortem examination once the bodies of Vipanchika and her daughter are brought back to India. Shailaja is also demanding that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Meanwhile, Nidheesh has reportedly stated that his daughter’s body will not be sent back to India.
Vipanchika, a native of Rajitha Bhavan, Kottankara, Kollam, and her daughter Vaibhavi, were found dead at their residence in Al Nahda, Sharjah, on Tuesday night. Vipanchika worked as a filing clerk at a private firm in Dubai, where her husband Nidheesh also works. Reports indicate that the couple had been living separately. Vipanchika had been working in Dubai for seven years, and their marriage took place four and a half years ago.
