Minister R. Bindu Responds to Samastha Criticism on School Zumba; Defends Program for Student Well-being

Minister R. Bindu has responded to the criticism raised by the Samastha youth wing regarding Zumba dance in schools. Asking what is wrong with Zumba dance, the Minister urged everyone to be ready to think in line with the times. She further explained that Zumba provides mental and physical recreation for children.

The Samastha youth wing had come out against Zumba dance in schools. SYC leader Abdusamad Pookkottur had stated that Zumba dance harms morality and that parents should think more deeply about it. This stance has drawn significant criticism.

The Education Department initiated the Zumba program to reduce mental stress among school children. The Education Department has decided to provide Zumba training in schools starting from this academic year. Zumba is intended for the physical and mental well-being of children. Many schools have already started Zumba training with the cooperation of their Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs).
