KSRTC Shifts to Field Duty for Drivers and Conductors; Office Work Limited to Those with Health Issues

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s Minister for Transport, K.B. Ganesh Kumar, announced that office-based work in KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) will now be limited to employees with health issues. He emphasized that the maximum number of drivers and conductors should take up active duty. The minister stated that an additional 100 buses are currently operational. Employees with health concerns are being reassigned to office roles based on doctors’ recommendations.
Kumar also mentioned that approximately 3600 minor cases are pending against employees. A continuous adalath (public grievance redressal camp) has been scheduled from the 26th to resolve minor offenses through penalty payments. The minister added that passengers can access all information by downloading the “KSRTC Chalo” app, and that inquiry counters at KSRTC depots would be discontinued.
Speaking about the success of KSRTC’s travel cards, the minister revealed that one lakh cards were issued, with eighty thousand already sold. K.B. Ganesh Kumar also announced plans to introduce a new digital concession card for children.
“Children from Class 1 to Class 12 will be issued these cards. The annual cost will be ₹110. Students can travel on specified routes for 25 days a month,” the minister explained. He also stated that outdated landlines in all depots would be replaced with new mobile phones, allowing complaints to be submitted via WhatsApp due to their smartphone capabilities.
