Tapping Worker Found Dead in Palakkad Forest, Suspected Elephant Attack

Palakkad: A rubber tapping worker was found dead inside a forest area near a residential locality in Edathanattukara. Forest department officials have confirmed that the death was likely caused by a wild elephant attack. The deceased has been identified as Ummer Valparamban (65), a resident of Kottappally.

Ummer had gone to work at a nearby rubber plantation in the morning but was reported missing afterwards. Following a search, his body was discovered in an area bordering the forest. The exact time of the incident is unclear. Preliminary conclusions suggest that the death was caused by a blow from the elephant’s trunk.

This area is known for frequent elephant presence. Just last Friday, wild elephants had ventured into the residential area of Edathanattukara Idamala.
