Nilambur MLA PV Anwar Resigns from Assembly

Nilambur MLA PV Anwar has resigned from his position. He submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker with about one and a quarter years remaining in his term as a legislator.

Anwar recently joined Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. After being appointed as the coordinator of the Kerala unit of the Trinamool Congress, there were indications that he might resign from his MLA position.

Anwar, who had won the Nilambur seat as an independent candidate, would have faced disqualification if he formally joined the Trinamool Congress. His resignation comes in this context.

The Trinamool Congress’s National General Secretary and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, officially welcomed PV Anwar into the party.
