Man-Eating Tiger Trapped in Kalikavu, Wayanad

Locals Demand Radio Collaring

The elusive “man-eating” tiger that has terrorized the Kalikavu region has finally been trapped in a cage set up by the Forest Department. The tiger was caught in a cage installed at the Sulthana Estate in Karuvarakundu. The Forest Department had been actively searching for the big cat for the past two months. Locals were the first to inform the Forest Department that the tiger had been trapped.

The tiger’s capture comes after a tragic incident on May 15, when Gafoor, a rubber tapping worker, was killed in a tiger attack. Following the incident, residents staged widespread protests, demanding the immediate capture of the tiger. This led the Forest Department to intensify its efforts to trap the animal.

However, confirmation is still awaited as to whether the captured tiger is indeed the same one responsible for Gafoor’s death. Earlier, a leopard had been caught in a cage intended for the tiger. Meanwhile, local residents are demanding that the tiger not be released without being fitted with a radio collar.
