Malayali Joins Russian Mercenary Group, Killed in Shelling Incident

A Malayali man who had joined a Russian mercenary group was killed in a shelling incident. The deceased has been identified as Binil Babu, a native of Kuttanellur, Thrissur. Binil’s family confirmed receiving official notification of his death from the Indian Embassy.
The incident occurred in Ukraine, where Binil was fatally injured in a shelling attack. Another Malayali, Jain Kurian, who was with Binil at the time, sustained severe injuries. According to the Indian Embassy, Jain is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Moscow.
Jain had informed his family about the critical injuries he sustained during the war. Tragically, Binil passed away while efforts were being made to bring both men back to India. Earlier, Jain had traveled from Russian-occupied Ukraine to Moscow.
The two men had arrived in Russia in April, reportedly through a family acquaintance. They were promised jobs as electricians, but due to deceit by a Malayali agent, both ended up joining a mercenary group. Although the Indian Embassy had issued a directive for their release to the group’s commander, the order was reportedly returned without being executed.
